Steam Greenlight - I, Gladiator

Swords clanging against one another, shields bashed into the opponent's body, or honorable duels via fists. Warriors clashing in battle isn't a new concept, though it still is a fun one to mess with. I, Gladiator walks you through these familiar ideas and more, the execution being slightly more humorous than any game before it. Although the formula seems similar, I feel as though a different experience awaits players.

Spartacus Legends is a free to play game on Xbox Live, focusing more on player versus player battles than anything else. While I, Gladiator doesn't seem to focus solely on player versus player, both titles share the same mode. Mix that with the feel of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and you have yourself the basis of this greenlight game that started off as an app.

Comparing those two games actually seems to make the basis for what this game is all about. When it comes to Spartacus Legends, you're essentially trapped in an arena with your opponent. The combat almost feels like a side-scrolling fighter, though it gives you slightly more room than just back and forth.
Here, your player seems to be trapped in an arena with numerous enemies, or just your single enemy if you so choose. However, there is no side-scrolling involved, which gives more roaming power to the player.

That is where the Chivalry: Medieval Warfare comparison comes through. In that game, you have the free roaming capabilities, though I, Gladiator seems to halt that a bit. You have freedom, but not so much freedom. There is also a level in Medieval Warfare that is simply a battle arena filled with traps and all sorts of contraptions. When you include the customization options it almost feels exactly like I, Gladiator without the comic art style.
Sword to the face action, you can't get much better than that
All in all, despite the subtle similarities with other games before it, it still feels like a solid game. Steel Monkeys will be releasing this on PC in the first quarter of 2015, and allowing said game on Steam would be something major for the company. If you like the game, greenlight it over on the Steam platform, show some love to their ambitious title.
